5 ways to use MyFitnessPal
Do you keep track of workouts, food and water? It can be done without a lot of fuss with an app like MyFitnessPal.
Many of us have used a food and exercise log to calorie-count, track food and keep track of workouts.
I currently use the MyFitnessPal to track my meals during this part of competition prep to keep me on track and accountable to what I am putting in my body.
But did you know that there is a lot more to MyFitnessPal than just tracking?
Here are 5 ways to use MyFitnessPal
Customize your goals
Accountability and support
Isn’t it often easier to go to a new class if a friend goes with you? Or seem more doable to start a new fitness journey when your partner or family are a part of it too? I am a big fan of accountability partners.
MyFitnessPal offers this support in a virtual way. You can link up with your friends who are also on the app and monitor one another’s progress. This allows you to get a little boost as well as that extra nudge to keep going when the going gets tough.
I mean, who doesn’t like a challenge? We all want to beat our friends. Right? I felt that way when I was using the Nike+ running app. My friends were not going to outrun me. Nope.
Macros tracking
The food diary offers a pre-defined percentage breakdown of carbs, fat and protein. You have the option to see other micronutrients like sugar, sodium too. Regardless of how detail you go, you can get a great overview of your diet. It also will give you a notification if you go over your goals.
Connect to other devices
Do you have a wearable device on your arm? Most are wearing FitBits, Garmins and Apple Watches. For many, they are a great motivation to get active and stay active. And thankfully, you can sync your wearable devices with the MyFitnessPal app. Check out all the devices and apps MyFitnessPal connects with here.
I am currently connected to seven different apps including Fitbit, MapMyFitness, MapMyRun and Polar Flow.
You can customize your goals beyond your weight. You can use the app to set a goal-specific macro intake, monitor your level of daily activity and manage your intake of micronutrients.
Find a recipe
What should you cook tonight? There’s only so many times you can eat the same meal over and over again. Instead of eating the same meal, use the recipes.
You can find them on the blog or in the Meal Ideas section under Recipes. It is an awesome way to get ideas and find recipes.
There are times that I definitely need some new ideas. I get tired of the same thing after a while.
MyFitnessPal can do so much
Did you realize you could do all of this with MyFitnessPal? It offers you a wealth of information and functionality that go way beyond simple food and activity tracking. Regardless of whether you want to run your first 5K or a bodybuilder prepping for a show, you can find extra support along the way.
