5 things to do before every workout

Think about your last workout. Did it leave you less than sweaty and completely unsatisfied? Truth is, some workouts are better than others. Regardless, there are a few things you can do before every workout to set yourself up for a workout that gets you a stepper closer to your goals.

5 things to do before every workout

Plan your workout in advance

If you go to group fitness classes or meet with a trainer, you don’t have to worry about this because your workout will be planned for you. However, if you hit the gym alone, you should go with a plan. A plan allows you to get right to work, moving from one exercise to the next without having to decide what to do or thinking about what comes next.

Pack your gear

Make sure you have everything you need—earbuds for music, sneakers and clothing—before you leave home. Nothing kills a workout quite like a missing pair of shoes or sports bra. Pack your gear in your gym bag so you don’t forget anything.

Eat and drink something

Do you drive your car on empty? Nope. Make sure to gas up your body before every workout with a carb-based snack that your body can turn into much-needed energy. Also, drink plenty of water so that you are well hydrated.

Mentally prepare yourself

Exercise is fun, even when you feel like you want to die. So, mentally prepare yourself for the workout ahead of you. Remind yourself that you are making a difference in your health with every rep, mile or lap.

Warm up

You should warm up before every workout. It’s an important part of a workout because a warm body moves more efficiently. Just 10 minutes of cardio will do it. Dynamic stretching also is effective.
