How you can start your fitness resolutions today
It’s that time of year when you start thinking about what can you different this year than last. For many, fitness resolutions are at the top of the list. When it comes to “getting healthy,” many of us want to do it all. We want a makeover where we change how we eat, exercise and look, all at once.
You’ve seen the magazines at the store, “Lose 10 pounds in 10 days”, “Amazing 5-day diet” and one of my favorites “Lose 5 lbs by this Sunday” (insert sarcasm). Crazy thing is that we know there is no quick fix.
And since we know that it’s not realistic to have immediate changes, it is worth saying that something is better than nothing. You do not have to wait until you can change everything for weight loss or buy new workout outfits. You can take baby steps towards caring for our bodies and cover more ground than if you wait for our lives to accommodate all the changes at the same time.
What can you do starting today?
Start small
If it’s fat loss, more energy or a more toned physique that you want, you can make one small adjustment today that moves you closer to your goals for your life and your body.
I look back at my progress and proud of how far I have come. When I first started I envisioned what I wanted to ultimately look like but wasn’t sure how I would get there. I started small with food including my love for warm bread and pasta. I told myself I can have both but not together in the same meal. If I was having pasta there would be no rolls or garlic bread and vice versa.
It’s changed over time. When I am not in competition prep, I find ways to have balance and enjoy the foods that I love. When I am in prep, things are still a balancing act but I am following a strict script.
Food is energy
Start by changing one meal a week for the next month as you work towards your health goals and fitness resolutions. Take that one meal that might be too large, heavily processed or carb heavy and change it to a balanced meal that includes a lean protein, carb and vegetable-rich meal that nourishes your body and moves you closer to the goals.
Fitness resolutions and more
There’s nothing wrong with wanting to look and feel good about your body.
Feeling good and moving well in them, is a perfectly acceptable priority to have for yourself and for the people in our lives that rely on our physical, mental and emotional strength.
Commit today to making one small change towards a more healthy lifestyle.
It doesn’t have to be perfect. Just start. Six months from now, you’ll wish that you started today.
