I can’t believe I am saying this, but I am eight weeks out from kicking off the 2019 season.
I won’t say that I am in denial. It’s a little bit more of a shock than anything else. I looked at the calendar on Monday and that’s when it hit me because I have had the weeks counting backwards on my Google calendar since my coach put it in my head when she thought I should start the season.
However, that was weeks ago. Fast forward to today and it’s like holy heavens.
We lift heavy
There is still work left to be done on this physique. We are lifting heavy.
Glutes and lower body are a big focus for me. I know it is a focus for all bikini competitors. I need to still make improvements there in general and to improve from where I ended last season.
There is no reason to get on stage if improvements have not been made.
So that means squats, lunges, hip thrusts, plyometrics and more.
And I know sore muscles and a tired body are par for the course. We will work til I can’t work anymore. The goal is to make change happen.
Rest and recovery
The goal is eight hours of sleep a night. That is normally hard for me because I was going to bed at 11 p.m. and getting up at 7 a.m. While that is eight hours, it is not eight hours of sleep. So, my goal is now bed at 9:30 p.m. to help me get to sleep by 10 p.m. because my first round of cardio is at 6:15 a.m.
I am rolling down to my apartment complex gym since it is just a few feet away from my front door. It allows me to sleep til the very last minute, roll out of bed, go to the bathroom and then out the door. No need to get in the car and go anywhere.
The rest of recovery isn’t as formulated as I would like it to be at this point. I have a foam roller in the living room. My muscles would love it if I used it every day.
Massages need to be a part of the practice too. Let me be honest and say that fitting them in my budget right is a little harder than I would like it to be.
Eat and drink water
I am hungry. I need to get a little more creative in preparing my meals. I eat the same thing year round but giving it a little more flair would be helpful because I am tired of eating the same thing in the same way.
Water, on the other hand, is always a chore. I need more of it on a regular basis. I have good days and not so good days.
It’s basically tricking my mind to get me to drink more and more water. I’m on a lemon kick right now.
