Are you looking for a family friendly fast-food restaurant where the food is fresh? I think I have found a great spot to dine out – PDQ, which officially stands for “People Dedicated to Quality.”
In celebration of their 5th anniversary, they have unwrapped a new menu item – the Honey Butter Sandwich. It’s a 100% natural, never frozen crispy chicken breast sandwich dipped in homemade honey butter, layered with Grillo’s bread and butter pickles and served on a toasted brioche bun.
I was offered the chance to taste the honey butter sandwich. It’s a juicy sandwich seasoned with pepper and honey that’s lightly breaded and crispy. It’s also served in a paper/aluminum bag.
Mike F, the store manager, also offered me to try other things from the menu since this was my first time dining out at PDQ.
First up to try – the Grilled Chicken hand-tossed salad. The grilled chicken tenders served over mixed greens, tomato, candied almonds and craisins with Blueberry-ginger vinaigrette.
I wasn’t sure what to expect. When I heard candied almonds I was thinking something heavy or sticky, but not these. The candied almonds and craisins definitely added texture to the salad. I’m not a big vinaigrette person. It depends on the flavor. I’m undecided about the blueberry.
Then there are the chicken tenders, a popular PDQ menu item. I tried the grilled chicken tenders instead of the hand-breaded crispy tenders, which were made to order and typically comes with your choice of homemade sauce: bleu cheese, buffalo bleu, chipotle BBQ, creamy garlic, honey BBQ, honey mustard, ranch or sweet sriracha. My two favorite are the creamy garlic and buffalo bleu.
I am sort of over the whole chicken thing because of how much I ate during prep, but these right here I could eat over and over again especially if I had the sauces. I am really surprised about liking the buffalo bleu sauce because I am not a fan of buffalo wings. However, this sauce might make me think twice about wings and trying the Buffalo Bleu Sandwich.
This was my first trip to PDQ. It won’t be my last. Dining out sometimes is a luxury for me on cheat meal day. When I do dine out, this will give me a few more options.
